Star CDJR of Big Spring Wants to Help You Keep Your Ram Running for Years To Come

Congratulations on your new Ram 1500, be assured that it represents precision quality, distinctive styling, and high quality. It balances performance with a spacious, comfortable interior and a sleek exterior. When it comes to preserving those aspects of your vehicle, routine maintenance and regular oil changes are of utmost importance. In addition, there are a few important mileage increments when vital maintenance is needed, 20,000, 30,000, 60,000, and finally 100,000 miles.

Ram 1500 Oil Change Schedule

Most Ram 1500’s offer drivers an automatic oil change indicator system. The oil change indicator system will remind you that it is time to take your vehicle in for scheduled maintenance. Based on engine operation conditions, the oil change indicator message will illuminate. Operating conditions such as frequent short trips, trailer tow, extremely hot or cold ambient temperatures will influence when the “Change Oil” or “Oil Change Required” message is displayed.

2 Years or 20,000 Miles

At the 20,000 mile mark, the front suspension should be inspected. The front and rear axle surfaces will receive a look, too. Your technician will use oil at this point to lubricate the axles and keep the drive components cool while driving, so old fluid will be replaced with fresh fluid if needed. The brakes and cabin air filter of your 1500 should also be inspected. The cabin air filter prevents pollen and dust from getting into the cabin but will gum up over time due to the debris and dust it's keeping out.

3 Years or 30,000 Miles

The engine air filter of your truck helps protect the vital engine components from debris, similar to the cabin air filter. Replacing it helps the engine run at its best.

6 years or 60,00 Miles

The transmission system in your Ram 1500 should be flushed and replaced the fluid in your transmission at 60,000 miles or six years, whichever comes first. If you tow a lot with your Ram 1500, you will want to service your transmission fluid sooner rather than later.

10 Years or 100,000 Miles

Ram builds their trucks to last, and if you keep up with the maintenance schedule, you can expect to have your 1500 for decades to come when your odometer rolls over 100,000 miles. First, the spark plugs should be replaced. The spark plugs in your engine provide the spark to start the engine and wear down over time, so if you notice your engine is misfiring or you're having problems starting the truck, then they may need to be replaced sooner. A coolant flush and replacement should be completed at ten years or 100,000 miles as well. Coolant keeps the engine running smoothly and prevents it from overheating, and is a necessary part of maintenance.
