Journalists representing the Texas Auto Writers Association spent the early days of October test driving the industry's leading vehicles, including all of the new trucks and SUVs, both on and off the road in various situations. Once these terrains were driven and the dust was settled, these journalists declared the all-new 2022 Grand Wagoneer was the official SUV of Texas. In the full-size truck segment, the Ram Truck brand took home the top honors. The victory for the Grand Wagoneer continued a sting of consecutive awards won by Jeep, which included the Green SUV of Texas award, which went to the Jeep Wrangler 4xe. What Contributed to the Victories for Jeep and Ram?
The 2022 Grand Wagoneer sets the benchmark for what a premium SUV can be, as it won the best luxury SUV for 2022. The Grand Wagoneer surely impressed the members due to its attention to detail, exceptional luxury materials, integrated design, and innovative technology, including the Uconnect system. In addition, the Ram trucks once again put their best foot forward as it has won several consecutive awards, and their honors are well deserved as the Rams come with powerful engine options and a technologically advanced cabin that goes along with its exceptional craftsmanship. In addition to these wonderful wins, the 2022 Wagoneer won the full-size SUV award. Furthermore, the Ram 2500 won the Heavy Duty Pickup of Truck of Texas for the fifth consecutive year, while the Ram 1500 won several awards, including Full-size Pickup Truck of Texas for the fourth straight year; luxury category for a sixth successive year, and won in the off-road category for the fourth year in a row!
Best Infotainment System
Once again, the Uconnect system took home top honors for the fifth consecutive year. The all-new Uconnect 5 system made its debut this year, and it's the best iteration of the Uconnect system yet as it is the most connected, helpful, and content-rich while adding a greater personalization. In addition, each version of the Uconnect system comes with the highly innovative Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. In the case of the Wagoneer and the Grand Wagoneer, you will get a wireless version of these systems. In addition, you can use Alexa to start your vehicle while also having it play music, podcasts, and audiobooks. Through Bluetooth, you also can connect two phones at once or for passenger interaction with the Uconnect system with the driver. It's no wonder this is the fifth consecutive victory for the Uconnect system.
About the Event
This year's Auto Rodeo was held at Star Hill Ranch in Bee Cave, Texas, and it features both on-road and off-road driving opportunities. Members of the TAWA typically cast their votes for these awards after two whole days of vehicle evaluations. These journalists consider everything from exterior and interior styling and off-road capability to the overall ability of each of the vehicles. More than 50 pickup trucks and SUVs were considered for the competition, and over 40 journalists attended the event.
About the TAWA
The Texas Auto Writers Association was founded in 1987 by experienced automotive journalists who wanted to provide more of an avenue for networking, development, and professional growth. These journalists sought to create an automotive event unique to Texas, and what came from that is the TAWA Texas Auto Rodeo. Since 1993, these Truck Rodeos have been held all over Texas. In 2003, the TAWA created an event for sedans, sports cars, and other vehicles that would not be eligible for the Texas Truck Rodeo, which is now called the Texas Auto Roundup.
