Winter Car Care Tips

Brought to you by Big Spring Cars

Just because it’s Texas, doesn’t mean we won’t get cold or bad weather on occasion during the winter. It’s always better to be prepared, rather than not, which is why we are going to bring you some of the best car tips to get your vehicle ready for those chillier mornings. A lot of people might not be used to cold weather, or when the occasional weather pattern changes, to something like ice or snow. We want to make sure that our customers are always prepared for anything that life can throw at them. Down below we will be going over ways that you can make sure that you are ready, regardless of how this winter turns out! Better to be safe than sorry in these regards!

Maintain the battery

The very first thing that we want everyone to always be on the lookout for is their battery, and any issues that might arise. Batteries are notorious for their performance in cooler weather if they happen to be on the older side of their lives. That is why it’s important to stay on top of your battery when it comes to things like maintenance, to ensure that the wires are not corroded, and the connections are still what they should be. If you do begin to have issues with your battery, and it’s fairly old, you might want to purchase a new one as soon as possible, otherwise, you could be potentially stranded with a dead battery.

Check your tires

Another major component to all winter survival when it comes to driving is your tires. They are often overlooked and forgotten, but without them being in great condition, you are bound to run into some problems. That’s why the first thing we want you to do is continually check the air pressure to make sure that they are not underinflated, or in some cases, overinflated. You also want to ensure that you have plenty of traction from your tires, so now is a great time to do a tread check! As an aside, if you’re at all worried, winter tires are also available, though probably not necessary in Texas, regardless of the weather.

Survival kit

While we do want to mostly focus on the servicing of your vehicle, and how we can potentially help you, it’s also good to just be prepared for anything. That is why winter survival kits are so necessary. You’ll want to think about packing flashlights, batteries, extra warm clothing, jumper cables, a shovel, salt/sand, and even a first-aid kit. While this might seem extreme, being cautious is never a bad thing.
